Sign On to Tell the Governor We Need Critical Safety Improvements on the George Washington Parkway!

On Saturday, the General Assembly passed SB81/HB77 that Delegate Krizek and I carried to allow state and local law enforcement officers to conduct traffic enforcement on the George Washington Memorial Parkway.

These bills are the latest step in our fight over the last decade to make the Parkway safer for everyone and is the result of years of advocacy from members of our community who have witnessed far too many collisions, injuries and fatalities.

Since the tragic shooting death of Bijan Ghaisar by US Park Police in 2017, the U.S. Park Police has nearly completely abdicated their responsibility to regulate unsafe driving on the Parkway.  While improvements are years away due to lack of federal funding, Delegate Krizek and I were successful at passing legislation to authorize the Virginia State Police and Fairfax County Police to conduct traffic enforcement on the Parkway.

The bills are now on Governor Spanberger’s desk and will need her signature by April 13.
