GMU'S Point of View on Mason Neck

Point of View Looking Up From the River
Last month, I was invited to a community reception at the newly opened Point of View Complex managed by the George Mason Center for Conflict Analysis and Resolution on Mason Neck.  It is a beautiful complex.

As a practicing litigator, I can testify to the growth in methods of alternate dispute resolution.  The practice of mediation and conflict avoidance is really becoming a science and universities across the world are investing significant resources in teaching students alternative methods to resolve conflicts.

The property sits on a 120 acre peninsula donated by long-time Mt. Vernon residents Edwin and Helen Lynch.  The property is surrounded on water by three sides and overlooks Belmont Bay on the Potomac River. It is both a striking and idyllic setting.

The Center was opened this year in an effort to bring a world-class facility dedicated to teaching the art of conflict resolution and providing a setting to actually mediate significant conflicts in the D.C. Metropolitan Area.

It also contains the Center's library, professor suites, and housing for fellows in the program.  Ultimately, George Mason University is planning on constructing additional facilities on the property to house additional students, staff and groups seeking conflict resolution services.

The Center is led by Dean Kevin Avruch who gave us a tour of the facility along with Professor Karina Korostelina.  The facility has large meeting rooms and paired waiting rooms and other facilities for shuttle diplomacy.

The facility is also available to the community for use as an event facility and has LOTS of parking. Here's some more pictures below.
